Surrounded by Mountains

mountains

I love the mountains.  Last year my husband took me to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  The mountains were so beautiful.  We would drive through the mountains with the windows down and the sunroof open.  We would listen to music and take in all the scenery.  Life always seems clearer when you’re on top of a mountain.  My family’s all-time favorite vacation spot is Colorado Springs.  When you stand upon Pikes Peak at 14,110 feet above sea level, God seems closer.  Perhaps it’s because His handiwork is so evident.  At that height the air is thinner and you experience shortness of breath.  But, it’s okay because as you’re standing there admiring the grandeur of God’s creation all of a sudden you appear so very small and you realize that God is so very big.  Therefore, you accept the fact that even the next breath you take is in His hands.  It’s truly breath-taking.  Even in Northwest Arkansas, where my family is from, you have small mountains and big hills.  It’s such a wonderful experience to climb a mountain, stand at the top and look out for miles and miles in every direction.  In contrast, take a look at Southern Louisiana or even Southern Mississippi where we live.  While those areas have their own distinct beauty the land is just plain flat.  It’s hard to find even a small hill to climb.  The beauty can’t compare to the mountains.

God’s Word tells us in Psalm 125 that, “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.”  When you stand at the bottom of a mountain the sheer size is overwhelming.  Mountains are unmovable.  Mountains protect.  Mountains inspire.  Imagine being surrounded by mountains.  Some might say that the feeling would be one of helplessness but not when God Himself is the mountain.  There is such peace in my heart when I read these Truths from God.  There is such peace knowing that God stands around His people protecting, defending and shielding from all danger and harm.  Nothing comes through God that is not in His Sovereign will.  In that fact I can rest assured that there is no better place to be than surrounded by mountains.

Our Great Country

bataan1

Yesterday I took my children to the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby for a field trip. In History the children have been studying about World War II. The exhibits were all very interesting. But one particular exhibit caught our attention. It was the display of The Bataan Death March. During WWII tens of thousands of American and Filipino soldiers were surrendered to Japanese forces. They were marched for days (over 65 miles) in the scorching heat through the Philippine jungles. Thousands died. Those who survived faced the hardships of prisoner war camp.

The reason for our interest was that last week my brother had just completed the Bataan Death March Marathon. One thing that he said really stuck out and I wanted to share it with you,

“Sometimes watching the news, I begin to wonder if there is anything good about America that is left. Attending an event like this leaves no doubt in your mind that there is a lot of good still left in America, you just have to look for it.”

For those of us who have studied the History of our great country and understand the Biblical foundations upon which this nation was built, it becomes very depressing to think about how far left we have come and where we are today. But, after talking to my brother about his experience, then touring the museum yesterday and reading about all the men and women who have defended this nation I was encouraged. I agree that we are no longer the godly nation we once were, but there is no doubt in my mind that there are still thousands of God fearing people in our country who believe in and stand for the truths found in scripture. We find them in the military serving because of their loyalty to what this country once stood for. We find them serving in the churches, preaching and teaching the Truth from scripture. We find them on the front lines, fighting the war on abortion, homosexuality and the destruction of marriage. We find them quietly working and providing for their families and teaching their children the ways of God. It’s easy to think as Elijah that “I, even I only, am left”. (I Kings 19:14) but there are still those who “have not bowed down”. We might not be the great nation we once were but there is still greatness left in this country. The reason is because God is Great and He has those who love Him and serve Him all throughout this country. Now is not the time to disengage from the culture and give up on what once was, now is the time to fight for what’s right, to stand up for God and His Word, to live a consistent life that is pleasing to the Lord and to remember that God is sovereign and to Him be all Honor and Glory.

Below is a copy of the email my brother sent about the marathon. I pray it will bless your heart as it did mine.

“1st of all I would like to thank each of you for the support you have given. I have received hundreds of encouraging e-mails, text messages and phone calls. There has been tremendous support and interest regarding the 20th annual Bataan Death March Memorial Marathon and the fund raising efforts for the Alzheimer’s Association.

What an amazing experience! Sunday, March 29 we arrived at White Sands Missile Range near Las Cruces, New Mexico at 5:30 a.m. There we joined over 5,300 participants and 1,500 support personnel and volunteers. This is a memorial event to honor WWII veterans and the survivors of the original Bataan Death March in 1942. During the opening ceremonies we honored the dozen survivors who were present, proudly wearing their medals.. The youngest was 86 years old with the oldest at 92, most were in wheelchairs or used canes or walkers. A huge American flag snapped in the wind, bagpipes played reveille, many of the participants were in fatigues and combat boots, there was no doubt that everyone there was proud to be an American. Sometimes watching the news, I begin to wonder if there is anything good about America that is left. Attending an event like this leaves no doubt in your mind that there is a lot of good still left in America, you just have to look for it.

On the flight down, I met a man named Kirk Bauer who is the Executive Director of Disabled Sports USA. Their motto is “If I can do this, I can do anything”. Kirk is a Vietnam veteran who lost his left leg in 1969 and who for the last 40 years has helped people with disabilities renew their lives through sports. His work through the Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project teaches military veterans who have lost arms or legs how to ski, bicycle, play basketball, swim, run, etc. Kirk has worn a prosthetic leg since his injury, but in January, 2009 he broke the bone in his stump. Kirk had been on crutches for the last 8 weeks still training so that he could participate in this event. When asked why he was still planning on participating (he’s 61 years old), his reply was “How can I not do it?” He said that he is always telling disabled veterans to “adapt and overcome”, and that is what he had to do. I saw Kirk afterwards and he had completed the entire 15 mile honorary course on crutches with one leg. On both hands he had blisters on top of blisters, but he was smiling from ear to ear. What an inspiration! I don’t think I will be complaining about some aching muscles and a few blisters.

I had signed up for the civilian “heavy” category which is the 26.2 mile course carrying at least 35 pounds in a backpack, the course is through desert terrain with much of it uphill. This is done in part to experience some of what the survivors of the original march went through. My personal goal was to finish the marathon in 5 hours and 30 minutes, and I wanted to be a top 10 finisher in the heavy category. Thankfully, I was able to complete the course in 5:30:53 and finished 7th overall and 2nd in my age group (30-39) which qualified me for a medal. Many of our military veterans have suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Through this event we have raised some funds for Alzheimer’s support and research. 100% of all money raised has gone directly to the Mid-Missouri Alzheimer’s Association. Thanks so much to each of you who have contributed. If you have not had a chance and would still like to contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association you can go to http://www.alz.org/mid-missouri/in_my_community_16155.asp or you can print a donation form from the attachment and send a check to the address on the form. If you know of anyone who would like to hear about this or would like to help support Alzheimer’s research, please forward this to them. Without Wax

honeycomb“that ye may be sincere…” (Php 1:10)

When the apostle Paul writes to the Philippian church he offers up a prayer. Along with praying that their love abounds more and more and that they live without offence, he also prays that they will be sincere. I believe that God has given us women a unique ability to be able to discern when people are being sincere. No one likes to be around an insincere, patronizing person. But, show me a person who is truly sincere, a person who is heartfelt, and a person who is genuine and I’ll show you a person who people naturally congregate towards. While it’s easy to spot a sincere person, it can be difficult to describe the word “sincere”. The word “sincere” used here in scripture literally means without wax (sine cera) that is, honey which is pure and transparent. It is rather tricky to see through a jar of honeycomb but remove the wax leaving behind only pure honey and the jar becomes clear. This is how we are to be as Christians: pure, transparent, clear, what you see it what you get. We should never wear a mask of Christianity or as my husband calls it, having “coat rack Christianity” where you take off your “Christianity” and leave it at the door on Sundays only to pick it back up again next Sunday. Or, another word associated too many times with “Christianity” is hypocritical. Of course the sad truth is that the reason Christianity is viewed as hypocritical is because there are too many goats among the sheep. I believe that although a child of God will stumble and fall on occasion that a true believer will not live a consistent hypocritical life. For light and darkness cannot dwell together. Therefore, these hypocritical people are just pretenders of the faith.

Now, let’s talk about true believers being sincere; for even the most mature believer can have a tendency to be artificial at times. Let me explain by giving an example. Take a person who is going through a difficult time, perhaps they are having family problems, facing financial ruin, struggling with their health, or even in the midst of a spiritual war battling the enemy. They walk into church, put on a smile and “pretend” that everything is just fine.

“How are you today?”

“Oh, I’m doing great, and you?”

“Just fine!”

And they go and sit down, listen to a sermon, walk out the door and feel the same or worse than before they came into the service. Sound familiar? I’ve done it. Have you? I would say that most of us, if not all of us have at times. Why can’t a believer who is hurting walk into a church service with their brothers and sisters and share their struggles, their pains, and their worries? Why do we have so many “unspoken” prayer requests? When was the last time you heard someone ask prayer for a spiritual issue they were battling in their life? When was the last time we confessed our faults to one another and prayed for one another (James 5:16)?

While I’ve been in places describe like this, I’m so thankful to be a part of a church family where we do share our burdens (Gal. 6:2). Our church family has great love for one another, it’s apparent from the moment you walk into the midst of the church. And while the family is sincere most of the time, we can always do better. We need each other. Times are going to get hard. Our country is beginning to reap what we’ve been sowing for the last 50 years. Therefore, it’s time to remove any wax from our lives and as children of God be pure with one another.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. (Php 1:9-11)

Fires of Life

forest-fireLiving in the middle of a National Forest has its advantages. The lovely scenery, quiet solitude and the awe-inspiring awareness of being in the midst of God’s creation all add to the beauty. However, the other night I was beginning to wonder if living in the forest might have a few downfalls. You see, every few years various Forest Services throughout the country use prescribed burns in an attempt to control wildfires, insect infestation and create changes necessary to maintain a healthy ecosystem. We were warned that they would be burning but what surprised us was the amount of smoke. My children none the less loved all the excitement. They watched as men dug a fire line behind our home the day before. They went outside and waved to the helicopter, hoping for a chance to end up on the nightly news. They were awed by having to cover their faces for all the fire and smoke. But as the day wore on so did our enthusiasm. Eyes began to water, throats became sore from all the coughing, and our home begin to fill up with smoke. By midnight our home was completely filled with no means of relief. So my husband, being a great provider and protector, said “pack a bag, we’re leaving”.

The next evening as we drove back home we could still see the fires burning and they continued to burn for several days afterwards. My children did what all curious children do; they asked questions. “Why do they have to burn the forest” was the most prevalent one. As my husband answered them I began to think about the times in my life when the trials of fire have come. “Lord, must I go through this,” my heart cries. Yet, His Word is always there to answer. “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” (1Pe 1:7) The process of refining gold from ore is to use extreme heat in order to separate pure gold from the other elements. And God uses the same process of refining His children. You see, as a believer it’s very easy to claim Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”  But we must not forget the following verse. “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”(Rom 8:29) I must remind myself that the goal is to be “conformed to the image of his Son.” God wants me to be conformed into the image of Christ. This is why He tells us to be holy, for He is holy. It’s a work in progress that will one day be complete when I step into glory. But until that time God is working in my life, sometimes using extreme heat to separate the pure from the other. So maybe after all living in the forest has more advantages then downfalls. For even when the fire comes and the smoke fills our homes it can be a reminder that God is working in our lives for good. Just as the fire is good for the forest to purify and cleanse it, so can I rest assured that God will use fire in my life for we know that all things work together for good to them that love God and who are called for his purpose…..to be conformed to the image of His Son.

“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.” (1Co 3:11-13)

Super Bowl Lord’s Day

Super Bowl XLIII FootballAs far as I remember last night I watch my first Super Bowl game ever from beginning to end.  Why, you may ask?  Well, it was because I wasn’t in church.  Instead, our family went to some friends home, ate a great meal and enjoyed each other’s company while watching the yellow team and red team kick a pigskin ball around all evening.  Thinking about it now, I’m not even sure who won the game.  But I do know this.  Reports say that 97 million people watched this game.  NBC was paid 3 million dollars for each 30 second advertisement spot which added up to over 200 million.  Wal-mart and other retailers must have made thousands selling Super Bowl snacks and drinks.  And, thousands of church pews must have sat empty while 97 million were kneeling down to the god of sports and entertainment.  I wonder how many of these 97 million call themselves “Christ like” (Christian)?  There are probably several.  Do I think they are wrong if they missed church to watch a football game?  I’ll answer that question by asking this one, “Is the Lord our God a jealous God?”

I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

(Exo 20:2-6)

By the way, our church was completely empty last night.  There wasn’t one person at our church when the super bowl started.  Of course, there never is on Sunday evenings.  You see yesterday, like every other Sunday, we were at church all day.  We have Sunday school, morning services, a lunch fellowship and then afternoon services at 1:30 p.m.  Yesterday, we concluded our day at 3 p.m. with over an hour of singing praises to our Lord.  I’ve been told that our church has kept this schedule on Sunday’s since the “horse and buggy days.”  I love spending all day at church with my brothers and sisters in Christ.  I love sharing a meal and fellowshipping with the church.  I love focusing upon Christ all day and then coming home to rest in the evenings.  What usually happens is after coming home on Sunday afternoon our family will usually take a nap or just rest for an hour or two.  Then we will get up and many times go visiting.  Sometimes, we’ll invite people over and play games.  Sometimes we go to someone’s home and have coffee and cake.  Sometimes we’ll go visit someone who is lonely or sick.  Sometime’s we’ll go to other church services.  But regardless what we do, the day is always a day of worship, rest and enjoyment.  We look forward to Sunday.  In fact, it’s my favorite day of the week.  Unfortunately, that hasn’t always been true.  I’ve spent many Sunday’s exhausted, rushing to church, hurrying to grab some lunch, speeding back to the church for some meeting and the evening worship only to get home after dark, eating a late dinner and falling into bed worn out.  I don’t believe this is how God intended for us to spend the day worshiping Him.  Of course, in spite of the church schedule our attitudes play a huge role in regards to the Lord’s Day.  Once I came to realize that the day is not about me, me, me but all about Him, Him, Him the Lord’s Day took on a whole new meaning.  Having the schedule that our church does only helps to keep Christ preeminent on Sunday.

So back to Super Bowl Lord’s Day, it seems rather like an oxymoron.   But, many things in this world has become such.  Christian, where is your heart?  What are your eyes fixed upon?  Where is your affection placed?  Who do you serve?  To answer that question you must look at how you live, what you spend your time doing and how you spend your money.  Wouldn’t it be something if 97 million Christian people gave one dollar for the kingdom, gave one hour serving others, gave one day over to prayer and fasting for our country, gave one afternoon to witness to a lost neighbor or even spent one Super Bowl Sunday at church worshipping the One and Only True God of Heaven and Earth?  Now, that would be a super day!

Listen to me

handsMy youngest son is learning about different character traits as part of his Bible curriculum. This week I taught him about being attentive. All six year olds need to learn how to be attentive. Let me correct that statement. Every child, regardless of age, needs to learn how to be attentive. I find myself repeating commands throughout the day, saying, “Listen to me!” or “Are you paying attention?” or “Have you heard what I just said?”

Shortly after we were first married, Dana brought home a Cocker Spaniel puppy that we named Jesse.  This pup was out of control so we decided to take him to Doggy Obedience School. One of the first things the instructor taught us was that when we gave a command to only say it once. If you said, “Sit, Sit, SIT!!!!!” you would be training to dog to not obey at the first command. Since having children I’ve learned a few things. First, children are much smarter than animals. If a dog can be trained to sit, stay, and speak with the smallest of commands how much more should we expect intelligent children created in the image of God to be able to obey a simple command from their parents? Therefore, I’ve learned that the obedience of children will solely depend upon their training. Unfortunately, I’ve also learned that it’s much harder to retrain disobedient children than to properly train them from the beginning.

So, since this training is so important I wanted to really instill the trait of attentiveness upon my son. I took him to Proverbs 4:20-21, “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” I explained that being attentive means to listen with your ears, with your eyes and with your heart. “How do you listen with your eyes?” He asked. “Well son” I said, “There are times that you can just look at mommy and know what I want you to do without me even saying a word.” “And son” I said “without putting that knowledge in your heart you’re not really paying attention.”

Since I am but a child and my Father desires my attentiveness I have tried to apply these truths to my life as well. How many times does He have to say to me, “Listen to me”, “Are you paying attention?” or “Have you heard what I just said?” Too many times I’m afraid. So I’m learning to pay close attention to my Father and listen to the Words He has to say. But, I’m also learning that I can listen to my Father with my eyes. Psalm 32:8-9 says, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.” In other words, don’t be as an animal that must have incentive to come to their master. Don’t be like the out of control puppy that is trained to expect a treat. Be the obedient child that gazes upon the Father and willingly and joyfully attends to His words. I know that when my eyes are fixed upon my Lord that all He has to do is nod His head to get my attention. On those days He doesn’t have to say a word because His Word is already hidden in my heart. But, I can always do better for there are many times I take my eyes off Him. So Lord, my prayer is that you will forgive me when I’m inattentive and help my be stay focused upon You.   After all, every child, regardless of age, needs to learn how to be attentive.

The Quiet

 woods1

No news, no internet, no email, no TV, no cell phones, no home phone just quiet, nature, family, worship, peace, stillness…..No I haven’t just described some respite for overworked and stressed out families; I’ve just described my new home.  It’s located in a beautiful National Forrest, 4 miles past the middle of nowhere, Mississippi.

I can handle not watching or even listening to the news, for its rather depressing, and we’ve done without TV with the exception of a video now and then, and I knew before we moved that we would have to drive miles to get any kind of cell phone reception, and I had even accepted the fact that it would be a week or so until we could be hooked up for internet and email but when my home phone quit working I didn’t know what to do.  All of a sudden I had lost all connection to the outside world.  What if someone had to call us?  What if there was an emergency?  What would we do then?  Then I realized that we would do what everyone else use to do when faced with the same dilemma….we’d hop into the horse and buggy (or car in our case) and drive to town.   So, with that conclusion I started to enjoy the quiet.  I took time to watch my children play outside and took pleasure in the environment, my children gathered around the piano and we sang songs, I worked and worked hard around the house, I enjoyed the day and the quiet.  I recalled the scripture in Psalm 46 that said, “Be still and know that I am God.”  It’s a lot easier to know and recognize God all around you when the noise of the world is absent.

As soon as the phone company came out and fixed our phones I immediately called my family and friends.  Come to find out, no one had even tried to call.  So much for thinking I had missed something.  Could it be that my Lord wanted to show me that it’s ok to slow down and enjoy the simple things of life?  If I’m not careful I’ll spend my entire life running around doing what is good and completely miss the best things in life.  Sometimes it just takes slowing down and being quiet in order to see what’s best. With that said, I think I’ll go and take a walk……

“And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places” (Isa 32:18)

Saying Good-bye

  crying

It was American author and historian Washington Irving that said, “Sweet is the memory of distant friends!  Like the mellow rays of the departing sun, it falls tenderly, yet sadly, on the heart.”  Oh, how I wish I could express my thoughts so eloquently.

In a few days our family will pack the last boxes onto the moving truck and start a new ministry.  This move will be bitter/sweet.  Sweet because we are so excited about our new church and know that we’re living in obedience.  Bitter because God has blessed us with many friends that we will greatly miss. In the journey of life it seemed as though I’ve passed by this place but for a moment yet I have not gone untouched and my prayer is that my life has touched others as well.   It’s never easy to move and leave behind dear friends yet it is in the leaving that we have hope of meeting again.  For it is in the meeting again that makes those moments even more precious.   So I will not cry because this journey is over; I’ll smile because it happened.

Obama Christians

Note:  The following article was written a few days ago and because of my anger when writting it I have purposely waited on posting.  While I am still angry at the direction our country has taken I do not want my anger to influence my love for others or even my logic.  This article deals with professing Christians voting for Obama.  Many of these people are blind to the truth, in fear of judgment, and I will fervently pray for them and our nation as a whole.

I just finished reading an article that said a poll taken by The Barna Group states that half of “born again” Christians will be voting for Obama come November 4th.  (www.onenewsnow.com/election2008)

There is no doubt that we are living in the last days.  When people who confess to be “born-again” can vote for a man running for President who is the most extreme pro-abortion member of the United States Senate, it is indeed perilous times.  Not only does he support abortion but also strongly approves homosexual activism.  From questions about his Muslim background to his anti-Israel comments; this man is just plain scary.  Yet, according to the polls, half of “born-again” Christians will be voting for him.   The article went on to say that those who will cast a vote for Obama will do so because they believe that he will do a better job restoring American’s reputation and handling the economy.   Let me see if I’m clear on this…what these so-called Christians are saying is that voting for our pocket books should triumph over voting for godly principles.  And, voting based on morals really has no place in our current society.  In fact, our religious beliefs should be left out of government all together.  Christianity has been taken out of our schools, universities and government.  We the people have stood by and let it happen.  And now, people actually believe that their Christian convictions should be separate from their political views.  Unbelievable!

I guess if the liberal left had their way Christianity would be taken out of every aspect of society.  Let’s just leave it for Sunday mornings in the churches.  Are we really that far from it?  Let’s see.  Christians will work for companies who are anti-God (how many times have you heard about Christian people working for casinos, beer companies, etc), they will allow their children to be indoctrinated by anti-Godly systems (children being taught evolution, homosexuality and humanism), they throw money into the hands of the anti-Godly media (supporting the filth of Hollywood), and they will cast votes for people who promote anti-Godly views.  It won’t be long until they start coming into the churches proclaiming that the doctrines are too harsh, that the speech is too hateful and that preaching against sin is unacceptable.  Oh, never mind, they’re already doing that!

Americans    If you don’t live like, walk like, work like, talk like, look like or vote like a Christian    quit calling yourself one!   I guess these people will continue to call themselves Christ-like until one day when they wake up and are told by Christ himself, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”  Matthew 7:23

I fear greatly for our country.  If it was just the unsaved that were blinded I would have hope.  But God help us when “born-again Christians” have become so blind to the truth.  America, take off the blindfold, for there is one truth that we will witness found in Galatians 6:7.  Be not deceived; God is not mocked:  for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  Our country has been sowing, now we reap!  God have mercy!

Evolution

Last night my husband and oldest son and I watched Ben Stein’s “Expelled, No Intelligence Allowed”.  If you have not had an opportunity to watch this I highly encourage you to.  In this eye opening documentary, Stein exposes the hypocrisy of the atheist’s double standards of teaching in classrooms and universities and well as brings to light the connections between Darwinism and abortion, euthanasia and Hitler’s killings.  As he interviewed atheist after atheist one thing that I noticed was that many of them referred to their early religious beliefs and how after a semester or two of college their eyes were opened to the “truths” of evolution.  As I’m watching this I’m wondering how many people have been brought up in Christianity (including Darwin himself) only to have the influence of one professor destroy their faith.

It’s not just college students who are having their faith destroyed.  Evolution is taught as early as pre-school.  Just try and go to the local library and find a picture book on dinosaurs without having the lie of evolution jump off the pages.  It usually goes something like this….Dinosaurs lived millions and millions of years before humans.

If we as parents leave the teaching of science up to PBS, the classrooms or universities then we will have children who will question their faith and be taught that the Bible is nothing more than a collection of stories for the weak-minded.  So what is a Christian parent to do?  First, you must educate yourself.  Mom and Dad, Have you looked through your child’s textbook for accuracy?  Do you know how old the earth is?  Can you explain the Creation account found in Genesis?  Can you explain what happened to the dinosaurs?   Can you explain the difference between micro and macro evolution?  God has an answer for all of this.  True science can be verified by the Word of God.  If we do not ground our children in the Rock-Solid Scriptures they will easily be deceived to believe a lie.  We must not be naïve.   Evolution is not an innocent teaching.   Evolution is not only anti-science (for true science can be tested) but it is a dangerous religious belief.  The same belief that molded the evil thinking of Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Margaret Sanger, and Karl Marx    all of who have caused untold suffering and pain in this world. Why would we allow our children to be indoctrinated in these same teachings?  If an hour of Sunday School each week is all the teaching our children receive then they will not be strong enough to fight off the lies of the enemy.   It’s time to wake up.
